ABOUT CCTAThe Chittenden County Transportation Authority (CCTA) was chartered in 1973 by the Vermont General Assembly, after Burlington Rapid Transit, a private bus contractor, went out of business. CCTA serves the communities of Burlington, Essex, South Burlington, Shelburne, Williston, Winooski, Milton, and a portion of Colchester. LINK Express routes service Montpelier, Middlebury, and St. Albans commuters. CCTA is considered a municipality and is the first and only transit authority in the State of Vermont.
CCTA Services In compliance with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act, CCTA also provides transportation services for those who are unable to use bus service. Through a contract with the Special Services Transportation Agency (SSTA), van service is provided within a three-quarter mile radius of the CCTA fixed route service area. In FY 2007, SSTA provided almost 36,000 rides to people who could not use the fixed route bus service.
CCTA is currently governed by a fourteen member Board of Commissioners with two Commissioners each representing Burlington, Essex, Hinesburg, Shelburne, South Burlington, Milton, Williston and Winooski. In the spring of 2003, CCTA received authority from the Vermont General Assembly to operate outside of Chittenden County (in Washington County and between Franklin and Chittenden Counties). CCTA began public transportation operation in central Vermont as Green Mountain Transit Agency (GMTA). For GMTA route and schedule information, please log onto www.gmtaride.org.
